ARSI is publishing a Russian translation of the FAQ from the International Consortium on Sex Testing in Sport. The authors (Sone Erikainen, Katrina Karkazis, Michele Krech, Marcus Mazzucco, Payoshni Mitra, and Madeleine Pape) examine the International Olympic Committee’s policy requiring genetic sex testing as a condition of eligibility to compete in the women’s category. They explain what testing for the SRY gene can and cannot establish, review the scientific evidence, and consider the policy’s implications for athletes’ rights, privacy, and bodily autonomy. The FAQ was originally developed to help journalists understand the policy. It also examines the consequences for women and girls with intersex variations and the potential effects on grassroots and youth sport, and provides links to research and further reading.
