From the materials of the media, we became aware of the fact that on March 22, 2019, in the Children’s City Hospital of St. Mary Magdalene, a medically unnecessary irreversible sex-“normalizing” operation was performed on an intersex child. Doctors who crippled the child explain the manifestation of the natural diversity of human bodies known since ancient times by the consumption of products from the supermarket and substantiate their eugenic experiments with speculations about the child’s future, not confirmed by any scientific research.

We recall that we explicitly condemned such practices in our UN documents, including the World Health Organization, the Committee against Torture, the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the European Union, including recommendations issued by the Russian Federation during the UN Universal Periodic Review. We demand the immediate stop to intersex genital mutilation.

In connection with genital mutilation on an intersex child at the Children’s City Hospital named after Mary Magdalene, our organization appealed to the Prosecutor’s Office of St. Petersburg, the Commissioner for Human Rights of St. Petersburg, the Commissioner for Children’s Rights of St. Petersburg and the Health Committee of St. Petersburg with a request to investigate a medically unnecessary operation.
