For the first time in history, on October 1, 2020, at the 45th Session of the Human Rights Council, 34 states called on the UN Human Rights Council to urgently protect intersex people in their bodily autonomy and right to health. Austria issued a statement urging the authorities to investigate human rights violations and abuses against intersex people, ensure accountability, repeal discriminatory laws and provide victims of violations with access to legal remedies. The Association of Russian Speaking Intersex and 32 other intersex organizations welcome this statement and call on the UN Human Rights Council to take further action to protect the autonomy of intersex people, the rights to health, physical and mental integrity, to life, and the right to be free from violence, torture and abuse.
