Association of Russian Speaking Intersex celebrates International Human Rights Day at the negotiation table, where we raise questions about intersex genital mutilations and appropriation of intersex issues in the United Nations. For example, a representative of OHCHR expressed concern about the misuse of language and abbreviations, which impeded the advocacy of intersex rights; and representatives of the Scandinavian countries shared their progress regarding the discussion on the prohibition of intersex operations and promised to pay attention to the issue at the national level. Ilia also drew attention to the importance of intersex issues at meetings with the European Union in the United Nations, the Equal Rights Coalition, UNICEF, and participated in hearings at the UN.
